English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble - Echoes of Venice

The Plough Chapel, Brecon

Sunday, 19 October at 6pm

We are delighted to welcome back the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble to Brecon Baroque Festival. Gawain Glenton, Conor Hastings, Emily White, Adrian France and Silas Wollston perform Echoes of Venice.

Cornetts and sackbuts conjure up the sound of 16th and 17th century Venice: the beautiful and still-powerful city that was home to Europe's finest musicians. This introduction to a lost world brings to life music that echoed around St Marks, entertained nobility in palaces on the Grand Canal, or was performed in the winding streets and open campi of this captivating city. With music by Monteverdi, Gabrieli, Castello, Grandi, Frescobaldi and earlier Venetian masters such as Adriaan Willaert.

The English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble is a virtuoso period instrument group with a host of distinguished recordings to its name. In addition to regular recital work, the ensemble collaborates with leading vocal ensembles such as I Fagiolini, The Tallis Scholars, Alamire, Resurgam, The Marian Consort, Westminster Cathedral Choir, and is a regular at major festivals.

Duration: Up to 90 minutes with a 10-minute pause
